Cliff

I was walking around a carnival with my family walking past the stands where you can play a game and win a prize. As we walked past a stand that had these stuffed rock toys I told my dad that I wanted to get it so he said OK but you have to play the game first. The game was called shoot me. What you had to do was try and hit a moving object with these fake guns that shoot unhurt able bullets and also the object was moving really fast. So I sat up on these chairs and started to play I was shooting and shooting and then bang I hit the target and got a stuffed rock toy. As the guy passed me the stuffed rock toy I said to dad that I was going to name him cliff.

Then my family started walking around again looking at things. When we were walking around my older sister saw this ride and asked me if I wanted to go on it and I said yes.

So we ran over to the ride and hopped on it but as I was about to hope on it the guy that was working there said I wasn’t aloud to take cliff on so I placed cliff next to the rubbish bin and hopped on the ride. A few minutes later, my sister and I hopped off the ride and walked back to our family without remembering to pick up cliff.

We keep walking around and I still don’t realise that cliff is gone. Until we passed by the stand were I got Cliff from and that’s when I realise that he has gone. I tell my family and we start looking. We went everywhere around the carnival but we still couldn’t find him until my sister tells me that she remembers me putting cliff down by a rubbish bin because we couldn’t take him on the ride. So we ran back to that same rubbish bin next to the ride that we went on and there he is sitting down on the ground right next to the rubbish bin. I picked him up and said I will never lose you again cliff.

Otaki gorge

On the 26th of September I went to Otaki gorge with half of the year 7/8's. It was really fun. Also the year 11's came as well. Everyone got into groups and we all got 2, 3 or 4 year 11's in our group and they would show us how to make shelter, rafts and even a fire that we roasted marshmallows on. At the end of we played capture the flag. It was year 7/8's against the parents, teachers and year 11's. The year 7/8's won twice and the year 11's, parents and teachers won twice as well.

El Rancho trip

On the 10th of September, the year 7/8's went to El Rancho. On the first day half of the year 7/8's went and on the second day the other half of the year 7/8's went. I went on the first day. On each day there were 7 groups and each group had 3 activities. Also you didn't get to pick the groups or the activities and there were about 11 people in each group. Once we got to El Rancho we went in a room and had morning tea then we went straight to our first activity. The first activity that my group did was soft archery which was normal archery except on the ends of the arrows there were these marshmallow things on them. First You got in to 2 groups and then the 2 groups went on each side of the playing field. The aim of the game was to try and hit every opposite team member to try and get them all out and we did have these face masks things to protect our face just in case we accidentally got hit there. Also there were these big blow up object things that you could hide behind which was helpful. The next activity that my group did was go carting. When we got to go carting the guy talked to us about all of the safety rules and also that one of the go cart wasn't working so we just had to use one go cart. After the safety rules we lined up and put hair nets on. Probably so our hair would not get in the helmets. I was 3rd in the line so I didn't have to wait that long. When my turn arrived I hoped in the go cart, put the seat belt on, went through the safety rules one last time and then drove off. I drove around the track 3 times and then drove back to the bit were I hoped in the go cart. Once everyone got there turn including Renee that had to go with a guy in a double go cart we still had 10 minutes left some people got a second turn on the go cart and some people including me got to go on the double go cart which you didn't drive but it was still fun because the driver went fast. Then the go carting was over and before we went to our last activity all of the groups met at the playground and had lunch. After lunch everyone went to there last activity. The last activity that my group did was raffling. So first when we got there we sat down on a little bench and went through the safety rules and of how to use the gun. There were 2 sides that had 1 gun each. So my group spited up. One half of my group went to one side and the other went on to the other side including me. Also On each side there were this big large metal pipe thing that you shot down and the bullet would go through the pipe and come out the other side where the targets were. So the groups lined up and had a few turns to shoot. When it was my turn I actually hit the targets which was surprising. Half an hour later we started walking back to the park and met up with all he other groups then hoped on the buses and went back to school.

My essay

This is my essay. My class has been writing a essay about A long walk to water. We had to choose a character that we thought was interesting and then write about all there emotions they had in the story.

In the story 'A long walk to water' by Linda Sun Park, a character I found interesting was a boy named Salva. Salva showed he was Brave, sad and Quiet in a number of events.

In the story, I found that Salva was very brave. I thought he was brave because In one point of the story, his group that he was walking with left him alone in the middle of the night. Salva had to stay by himself for a long time and also he was in the middle of nowhere. Another reason that I found Salva brave is because he led a big group of young boys from Ethiopia to Kenya and safety. There were about 1500 boys that he helped make the journey and 1000 of them survived. I think he was incredibly brave because If I was in that situation, I wouldn't of have known what to do at all.

In some bits of the story I think Salva was Sad. I think he was sad because when the village got attacked he had to run and leave his family and home behind. Another reason why I think Salva was sad is because Salva's group got attacked by rebels and the rebels stole all of the groups stuff. Then they sadly killed uncle because he was the leader. One more reason is because when Salva was walking with the group half of the time that they were walking Salva didn't know anyone.

Image result for salva a long walk to waterSalva was very quiet in the story, because he didn't complain at all and he always stayed at the back of the group and didn't talk. I think it was good that Salva was quiet because if he talked a lot the group probably thought he was really annoying and didn't want him to be walking with them. But when Salva found his uncle he came out of his shell and wasn't that quiet.

In summary, Salva was brave, sad and quiet. He showed this in a number of ways throughout the story and this made him a character that I thought was great.

Valiant little Taylor.

I was walking through the forest coming back from a training session for my fighting that I do. Until I come along some trolls laying down in the forest. Those exact trolls are My friends called Leo and Jim. Leo and Jim are my best friends we do everything together, But the one thing that can annoy me is there stupid pranks. So I thought to myself that it is time to get them back. “ now it is going to be very hard because two on to one can be tough but it is time for payback”.

So I thought of a prank that would be very good. 5 minutes went by and I had come up with my prank. “By the way, don't judge this is the only thing I can think of.'' So the prank that I am going to do it through pebbles at them and see what they do.

While Leo and Jim were sleeping, I went to go and find some pebbles. Surprisingly, there was heaps. So I picked up a handful and walked back to Leo and Jim. When I got back, I hid behind a tree so they wouldn’t see me when I was throwing the pebbles. Next thing later there was pebbles flying through the air and crash landing onto Leo and Jim. Probably about 1000 pebbles later Jim and Leo jump up and start talking about what that was.

But then they started walking around trying to figure out what it was. I saw them coming my way so I ran back home so they would not find me. A few hours later they came around to play and all they were talking about was what happened today when they were sleeping and all I was doing was laughing.

Why I think summer is the best season of the year.

I agree that Summer is the best season of the year because it is always sunny and hot.  The sun always makes me happy and when it is hot, I go for a swim at the beach or have an Ice cream at the park.

Another reason why I like Summer is because the long school holidays are in summer so that means I don’t have to go to school, instead I get to be sunbathing on the beach.

Where I live in the Summer the whole community gets together at our local river and we have boat races every year. I always compete in them. There are lots of different kinds of races like kayak races, swimming races, double kayak races, standing up kayak races, Backwards kayak races and even a creative race. A creative race is when you get to make anything you want and you have to paddle init down the river. One time someone made a bed and it surprisingly floated but it didn’t win. Also the races are in different year groups.

The last reason is because in the summer all my family can come around and we can have a bbq. Also we light the outside fire so then me and my cousins can roast marshmallows and we can light some fireworks.

So that’s why I think Summer is the best season of the year.

A long walk to water- part 2

1. They don't want him because They think he will slow the group down and complain. I feel sorry for salva and annoyed that they just won't to leave him.

2.Water dictates her life because if she doesn't get water she can get dehydrated and she could possible die. Also Nya has to walk most of the morning to get water everyday and her family is relying on her to get water for them as well. Something that dictates my life is my education.

3.Trying to get honey from a bee hive, walking a few days with out food and having to go with out any family for almost a month thinking they were dead.Yes I think he is doing a good job learning to survive in these circumstances because he is surviving and not complaining.

4.At the lake camp the water is close to them so Nya doesn't have to walk along way to get water but at her real home she has to walk along way every way Also at the lake camp the safety is not really good because there is a lot of fighting going on there but at home there is like none.

A long walk to water-part 1

1.We learnt that Salva's life and culture from the first chapter was that he had 3 brothers and 2 sisters  and he went to school everyday. Salva's tribe has a v shape on there head called the dinka tribe. Salva's life is nothing like mine

2.If I was in Salva's circumstances I would be really scared and worried. some questions that might occupy salva's thoughts are where are we going, where is my family and when will I see them again.

3.Nya's journey is very hard it takes half the morning to get water. She has no shoes and can't get educated because she has to get water for her family. it is also very hot and if she spilt some she would have to go back and get more water. She also has to carry it on her head with all the water which would make her head sore.

4. Different tribes tell each other apart because of there marks on them for different tribes. They also have there own languages they speak.

The little shed

I was walking through the bush on a cold and foggy day, when I see a light in the distance that I have never seen before. I always walk past this place looking at the old shed but this time there is light coming from the shed. So I sneak up closer and closer making sure no one is watching me and because it was a foggy day I couldn’t see that much. As I got closer to the shed I noticed a boat out on the lake and I couldn’t see match action on it. I grabbed my binoculars out of my backpack so I could have a closer look at the boat to make sure no one is on it.  Luckily no one is. So I sneaked up on to the shed deck and went to knock on the door. So I knocked and then quickly ran to hide behind the barrels sitting next to the door. As the door opened my body got nervous and all of a sudden a shadow came around the corner. This old guy came out through the door and walked on to the deck, he yelled out “hey who is there” and obviously I didn’t come out from my hiding spot. Several moments later the guy goes back into his little house and so I come out of my hiding spot. I stand on the deck wondering what to do. But then I realised that the old man might not have a friend or he could be lonely so I decided to knock on the door again but this time do not hide instead I will just stand there and say hi. So I slowly walk back up to the door and knock. All of a sudden the door opens and the old guy comes out and looks at me in shock. All I say is “hi”. We stand there for a while looking at each other until he says “do you want to come in and we can talk”. So I did. As I sat on the couch in his little house he walks over and says “what’s your name and why are you here”. I say “my name is Tom and I always walk past here when no light is on but then when I walked past today I saw a light so I wanted to know who was inside, also when I knocked the first time I went to hide just to see who lived here and the second time I knocked I had enough bravery to stay there and not hide. All he said was OK. An hour later I walked out of his little house with a big smile on my face because now I officially was his first friend and also I get to help him with his big project that I inspired him to do. As I walk home all I think about is how he was so lonely for so many years. Then next day I headed back to his house and started the new project. The project was that I get to help him fix his house because one of the reasons why he is lonely is because people have been to scared to walk past his house because it doesn’t look very friendly. So today and tomorrow, him and I are going to be painting, cleaning, gardening his whole property and making it look friendly again. Because I am sure it once was a friendly house.

The Rocket challenge.

Over Term Two, A guy came and taught us about Rockets. One of the topics to do with the rockets is safety. Safety was a big thing that we learned about because we had to be safe and then when we learnt about all the rockets stuff. We started to design and make the rockets. Some people put parachutes on them but my group tried to but it failed. Then when we made them, we launched them. These are some photos down below. Something that I learnt is that when we used big fins our rocket didn't fly high So we are going to try little fins for our next launch.

No words, Just notes

I come home from work on the first day of June when I hear music coming from the streets in Paris. I walk to my window and look outside and there is the cutest boy standing outside playing the guitar. Happily, I sat there listening to his songs all afternoon. As he was playing, I noticed people walking up to him and putting money in his hat sitting on the ground, so I thought I would do the same. I walk down the stairs from my apartment and head over to him with 5 dollars in my hand. I pop the money in and walk back up to my apartment. When the sun went down and the moon came up he packed up his stuff and walked off.

The next day I come home from work and hear the same music playing again so I went to sit next to my window and watched and listened to him all afternoon again. As it started to get dark, the boy started to pack up but before he left he yelled out and said bye to me, so I said bye back.

A few weeks went by and he kept saying bye to me every night but on the 16th of June instead of saying by he said “hi my name is Jason what’s your name”. And I replied “hi my name is Kathrine”, then he walked off.

Every day from then on we had an awesome conversations about random things, until one day when I came home from work there no music and there was no Jason. That night I went to bed worried because Jason was not there.

The next day flew by and when I got home from work, Jason wasn’t there but what was there was a nurse standing outside my door. The first thing she said to me was “ Hi I am Jason’s nurse. Jason is in the hospital because he is very sick”. When I heard the word sick I was so devastated I almost fainted.

The next day was the weekend so I did not have to go to work. The whole weekend I had to think of a plan to help Jason, but first I needed a team. So I called all of my friends. The next day was Sunday we spent the whole day discussing ideas which could help Jason and at the end of the day we had a plan. The plan was that we will try to make as much money as we can, by fundraising and then donate the money to the hospital for the patients, including Jason.
2 weeks went by and we ended up making a lot of money for Jason and the hospital.

As the following weekend came by we went to the hospital and donated the money. While I was at the hospital I went to visit Jason. When I walked through the door  Jason was laying in the bed with tubes all around him. I felt so sick seeing him laying there like that. He wasn’t awake so I didn’t really say anything.

A few days after I went to the hospital I had work again and when I come home from work I heard music. So I sprinted to the window and there was Jason playing the guitar. As it got late and he finished playing I invited him to dinner so we could talk.

When we were having dinner he said that a bunch of people donated a lot of money and that is how he got better because of all the medicine. He then said that he was so grateful for those people that did that. All I said was that it was me and my friends and his answer was a kiss.

The mystery of Max!

"Max come here"! My day started off with a nice walk until Max my dog started to run off. I think he was chasing something but I was not sure what it was. I start running in the direction he went which was up the hill. But he is so much faster than me I had to pick up my pace! As I was chasing after him all I was thinking about was that how he has never done this before. so then I ran over to a boy and his dog in the park and asked if he could help me find Max.

The boy's name was Henry and his dog's name was Molly. We both ran off looking for him every where until we come across some foot prints that looks exactly like Max's foot print's. So then we decided to follow them.

We were walking for about an 15 minute's but it was worth it because as we walked through a bush, over a little hill there was Max laying in a bush with a little herd of pine cones. When I saw max sleeping with the pine cones My heart melted because it was the cutest thing in the world.

Before Max and I walked home I said a big thank you to the boy that helped me and so now me and the boy Henry walk our dog's every day together and we have became best friends.

The runaway

I was hiking through the woods with my family and best friend on a sunny and hot day. It was so nice and peaceful. All you could mostly hear was birds singing and leaves rustling.

As we made it to the river we decided to have lunch there and maybe even try out the kayak that is sitting in the water next to us. As we just sit down we here a noise it sounds like a roar getting closer and closer to us. Next thing 2 giant bears jump out of the bush.

My family, my best friend and I start running we run and run with the baby in my wife’s hands. We run up to the boat and stumble across the paddles so my best friend and I jump up the front and start paddling why my wife is in the back keeping my daughter safe.

When we start paddling we notice that the bears can swim because there they are swimming towards us in the river. Next thing we hit some rapids so we had to hold on because they were so strong we almost fell out of the boat. But as we got our balance again we were off.

After a while of paddling the bears still had not given up and my best friend and I were getting tired. So when we started slowing down the bears got closer and next thing there were giant paws grabbing onto the boat. But just then my wife thought of a plan she said we can through things at them and might get them to stop so we tried it.

A Few minutes later there was a bunch of thing floating in the river but no bears chasing us anymore.

Autumn leaves

                        Autumn leaves

I flew out of my nest to go and look for some food but when I looked down there was lot’s and lot’s of leaves so I swoop down and crash land in to them. They feel like a soft pillow but they sound like a rake dragging along the ground. As I sit up and look at them all I remember that it is the first day of autumn so that’s why there is so many leaves. Next thing I stand up and start throwing them everywhere it was honestly so fun I could do this all day every day. My heart beats fast as I run out of breath.

A few minutes later I hope up and fly off back up into the sky carrying on looking for some food thinking I definitely need to come back here with my friends. A few day later I went back to the same spot there were still so many leaves there but this time there was even more we swoop down and crash land there. Next thing we are jumping up and down throwing them everywhere having so much fun. As the moon came up we decided to go home. After a few weeks of going to play there the place became popular everybody was there it was so crowded you couldn’t even see the leaves on the ground.

But after a few months winter came and the leaves left so everyone was a bit disappointed. But then it decided to snow so it became popular again. Now that is officially my favourite place to go and also probably a lot of other people's favourite place to go.

Science Roadshow

On Tuesday we went to the science Roadshow. We learnt a lot about space like what is the hottest planet and that we are made out of star dust. Also they did a lot of explosions and made the colours turn pink and green. After a while when they had a talk to us we went to go and have a look around There was a lot of experiments and that. Something that I liked was these big blue bowl things and you talked into these yellow holes and the noise goes over to the other one so you can have a conversation on the other side of the room. Another one that I liked was this board with a lot of nails on it and we lay down, it felt so cool. There was a lot of cool other experiments and that so I hope they come back next year to show us new experiments.

Capital E festival of arts.

The year 7 and 8's went to Wellington on Thursday the 14th for the Capital E Festival of the Arts. We went to 3 shows.

The 2nd show was my favourite, it was called Wolfgang's Musical Circus. A few reasons why I liked the show is because the tricks and that was awesome and how the woman did all of the lifting and the guy did all of the stuff on top so they switched it up a bit. Also I liked how one of the other guys was in the back round playing a accordion and making face expressions why the other guys were doing tricks. There wasn't really any bad things that I did not like about it but the things that I would recommend is try and get all of the kids in the middle so they could see everything and to make sure the kids are on the same level Because where I sat I couldn't see one of the sides and I never got the chance to go on stage. But other wise it was amazing probably the best show I had ever been to in my life.

The 1st show was called the troll It was my 2nd favourite because It had mostly everything in it. It had horror, comedy, action and lot's of other great themes. The show got sad at some points but then they were funny in another way. The acting was awesome because they made everything look so real especially the troll. I have know Idea how they got the troll to move so real but I know they would of put a lot of effort into it and they probably practised a lot. Also They probably used a lot of there skills to create the whole show. There wasn't anything that I would recommend because everything was perfect.

There was one more show but I didn't enjoy it as much as the other ones. After a day of watching shows I went home telling everyone about them.

Get NZ Writing 2019

A few days ago our teacher gave us an Item and we had to write a poem about the object that you got. We came up with descriptive words and then we had to put them on a little post card. Also we had to put an anagram on our post card. The one that I found was Aneurism Protein which was an anagram for miniature person. Then we got to colour the back. The people that finished first had to do another one like me. There were 32 postcards in total. When we put them together, they made the image in the photo below.
we also did a class poem so we did a survey and then our teacher chose the best answers. The words that we had to come up with had to be wow words that would be interesting.

Makey Makey workshops.

Makey Makey workshops.

JPEG ImageJPEG Image

We went to the Makey Makey workshop on Thursday the 28th of February. We made music with fruit.
firstly we got given boxes with lot's of cables in them and secondly they just told us to go so we did not know how to do anything and we just had to work it out by our selves. I was in a group with Macy and Harriet. when we went to get started we got carrots and cables and we had to connect the cables to my chrome book and then to this little electronic thing that you connect all of the cables to. Then connect the cables to the carrots. last of all we needed to have an earth which was a human.  We got the cable and connected it up to Harriet's finger. once we did all of that we tried it out so we had to tape the carrots like a piano and music started coming out of my chrome book.  It actually worked which was good. Then we had to do it again but use cardboard and tinfoil and make anything we want out of it. We made a present. once we had tried it out and finished our creation we had to present them but unfortunately our one did not work so it was a fail. That afternoon I learnt a bit of problem solving because our project didn't really work so we had to go back and have a look to see how we can fix it.
I achieved by fixing it and presenting it but It didn't really work.
